FLIR MTMS – Marine Thermal Monitoring System

https://www.aquila-nova.com/web/image/product.template/3420/image_1920?unique=7278331

The FLIR Marine Thermal Monitoring System (MTMS) is a multi‑point thermal monitoring solution designed to watch critical onboard machinery — including engines, exhaust manifolds, shaft bearings and other heat‑generating components. By detecting abnormal temperature changes early, the MTMS helps crews prevent engine damage, reduce downtime and avoid mechanical failures that could leave a vessel stranded.

The system provides continuous thermal oversight and can be integrated into bridge displays, vessel automation panels and digital monitoring dashboards, making it suitable for engine‑intensive vessels across commercial, offshore and service fleets.

Aquila Nova deploys the FLIR MTMS as a complete operational system:

  • Planning of thermal monitoring coverage across engines and machinery zones
  • System design for multi‑camera thermal nodes and monitoring points
  • Integration with bridge displays, vessel automation systems, and digital dashboards
  • Installation, cabling, commissioning and onboard validation
  • Crew familiarisation for preventive maintenance, safety and operational use
  • Full lifecycle support, troubleshooting and periodic health checks

Aquila Nova ensures the MTMS becomes a core safety and maintenance tool, not just a set of sensors.

Key features

  • Scalable multi‑point thermal monitoring, supporting multiple camera nodes placed along engines, manifolds, bearings and machinery spaces
  • Detects abnormal heat rise that may indicate mechanical issues, friction, blockage or early‑stage failure
  • Provides a thermal early‑warning layer for fire prevention and machinery protection
  • Continuous temperature observation with clear thermal imaging of key components
  • Integration into bridge displays / multifunction chartplotters for quick visual confirmation
  • Integration into vessel automation or HMI systems for alarms, logs and operational dashboards
  • Supports digitalisation and preventive maintenance workflows by feeding thermal data into the vessel’s monitoring ecosystem
  • Designed for engine rooms and machinery spaces on workboats, tugs, OSVs, ferries, and commercial craft

Typical Application

  • Workboats & Harbour Craft
    • Continuous monitoring of main engines, manifolds, gearbox areas and bearings
  • Tugs & Towing Vessels
    • Early detection of overheating in engines and shaft lines during high-load operations
  • Offshore Support Vessels (OSV/AHTS/PSV)
    • Monitoring machinery rooms where an unexpected temperature rise indicates early failure
  • Commercial Vessels & Ferries
    • Preventive maintenance and fire‑risk reduction through thermal oversight of mechanical systems
  • Government & Utility Craft
    • Continuous protection of propulsion and auxiliary systems during heavy‑duty operations
